Build One Way Links Link Building Strategy

One secret to SEO is to build one way links. A good link building strategy is crucial to any search engine optimziation campaign. One way links, also called backlinks, are non-reciprocal and only go "one way." For example Site A links to your website, but you do not have a link from your website to Site A. It's like a big popularity contest where every backlink is a "vote" for your site. Their thinking is that your site is good enough to warrant a webmaster putting a link to it even though that same webmaster might not get a link in return.

When building your own one way links it is important not to neglect your interior pages. That means, get some links going to pages of your site other than just your homepage. This will definitely help boost your search engine optimization.

How To Build One Way LinksLink Building Strategy

The first question on everyone's mind is "How do I build one way links??" Well, there are a few ways of going about it.

Quality Content. If you can become an authority in your niche and provide valuable content, your visitors will stick around longer and be more likely to link to your site. People do not put up one way links to sites unless they really like them. Would you want to put up a link to a poor quality site? I didn't think so.

A good example is how a couple of library websites voluntarily put a link to my surfing website on their own websites. These library sites are Page Rank 5, which means that they are powerful pages in terms of link popularity "voting." (Pagerank is a scale from 0-10, with 10 being the highest Page Rank you can achieve.) I'm not trying to brag about my content, I'm just pointing out that a librarian saw my website and thought that it had good enough content for them to put it on their website. So, the lesson here is: write well enough to convince your local librarian! :)

Article Writing. Article writing is a great tool that can get targetted traffic to your site, but it ALSO has the benefit of helping you build lots of one way links from high page rank sites such as ezinearticles.com and articlesbase.com. I would advise against submitting to mass article submission services, since it may be viewed by the search engines as spam. There are a few article directories I use that get me good results. They are

What I do is use Firefox (which you should be using anyway!) and I have all these bookmarked and in a folder. I then go to that folder and "open all in tabs." This enables me to quickly submit to these article directories one by one.

Press Releases. Press releases are similar to article writing campaigns in that you get targetted traffic as well as inbound, one way links to your website. I like to use i-newswire.com.

Directory Submissions. There are a number of services out there that will submit your website to free directories. It goes something like 400 submissions for $39 or so. The jury is still out on this one. Some seem to think it helps a little, but others have seen their sites ranking go down after doing this.

Buying Links. I have personally never bought any high page rank links, but the option is available. Google may begin cracking down on this practice, so you might want to spend your money elsewhere.

Useful Blog Comments. This helps get visitors to your site, but putting a link to your site from a blog comment will only work if the blog owner doesn't have all their links "Nofollow"ed. When a site owner puts rel="nofollow" in their links, then the spiders don't follow that link and in essence the site owner is linking to a site without "voting" for it, or passing site popularity to it. This is a more advanced technique, but you can look to see if a blog is "rel nofollowed" by going to View-->Source in your browser. That will open up the website's source code. Then do a Ctrl-F (find) and type in rel=nofollow. If the links in the comments have this in them, then you won't gain any SEO power from the links, but you might get some traffic if people click your link. Important: Do NOT spam people's blogs with your links.

Link Building ServicesLinkVana and Others

I recently signed up for a new link building service called LinkVana. It allows you to build an unlimited number of backlinks across their high quality blog network. There is no footprint for Google to track, and your blog posts will be gradually released so you don't look like you're spamming the network. Remember, gradual, natural link building is KEY to SEO. Read my review of LinkVana or simply check out their website to see what they have to offer.

Do's And Don'tsLink Building Strategy

DO try to build links slowly and naturally.

DON'T spam your links. Search engines do not look favorably on finding 100 new links to your site all of a sudden. It looks suspicious

DON'T submit your sites to link farms. Some of these websites are flagged by the search engines and anyone with a link in these "farms" is penalized. You'll know a link farm when you see it.
